If someone had told me 8 years ago that I would be working at a needle exchange program, I wouldn't have even known what that was. However, finding a safer injection guide in a stack of patient resources while working as a research associate set me on a path that led to my discovery of my passion for public health and love for harm reduction principles. This love only deepened as I continued to learn more about how effective harm reduction is in building trust and keeping people safe until they are ready to enter treatment. Learning to meet people where they are broadened my perspective on what it means to help others.
