Our Story

IDEA Exchange Tampa began operating in January 2021. With the premise of providing new syringes in exchange for used ones, IDEA Exchange Tampa envisions health equity with a mission to increase access to the tools necessary to keep people healthy, especially those who are most vulnerable. Operating in partnership with The University of South Florida and Tampa General Hospital, IDEA Exchange Tampa is the second legal syringe exchange in the state of Florida. Besides its primary function of providing new syringes in exchange for used ones, the exchange hosts many auxiliary harm reduction services to reduce the spread of HIV, Hepatitis C, and other blood-borne diseases.

To work directly with people who use drugs to achieve the goals of social, structural and health equity along a continuum of self-defined recovery.

By providing equitable judgment-free harm reduction and recovery support, we hope to disrupt the stigma surrounding addiction and transform the social narrative around people who use drugs.
